Town's miserable start to the season continued with a 2-1 home defeat to West Ham. However, there were signs of improvement in a second half where Jermaine Wright's deflected shot pulled a goal back, West Ham having gone two-up through Jermain Defoe and David Connolly.

Town's dismal start to the season continued as they deservedly lost 1-0 at Wigan's JJB Stadium. The Blues were rarely on top in a game won by a second half Nathan Ellington goal, the striker deflecting Jason Jarrett's shot past Kelvin Davis.

Off form Town dropped more home points as they drew 1-1 at home to Coventry. Marcus Bent put the Blues ahead on 16 minutes but Micky Doyle equalised for the visitors just after the half hour. Town probably had the better of the second half but failed to grab the winner, sub Ian Westlake coming closest.

Matt Richards has been withdrawn from Joe Royle's squad for Saturday's home league clash with Coventry City. The young full-back has a slight groin strain which he picked up in Wednesday's reserve game against Southampton.

Town manager Joe Royle has hinted that he may start 17-year-old Dean Bowditch when the Blues face Coventry City at Portman Road on Saturday. Bowditch scored his first senior goal in the 1-0 extra-time win against Kidderminster recently.
